Nigeria man regains freedom after 18years incarceration.

According to Honest Munachiso Offor who shared the story on facebook, the court acquitted the young man of all charges.

He wrote:

18 years Behind Bars, Free at Last

He is the longest serving awaiting trial inmate. He was arrested in 2003 and has been in incarceration. Today, 18 years later, he finally regained freedom as the court acquitted him of all charges and discharged him.

I am proud of the role our organization played and grateful to those who stayed the course till justice was done. Stories like this one, strengthens my resolve to put in my best in the service of those who have no voice and no powers. It furthers reminds me why I chose this life.

There are many Nigerians like this, who our flawed criminal justice system has punished unduly and unjustly. It is for their sakes that we insist that our criminal justice systems must be reformed.

18 years is a long time and this innocent man has lost touch with modern realities. Attention now turns to rehabilitation and empowerment. There is work to be done but today, we rejoice that he is free at last.
