FG Refunds N148bn Road Repair Funds To States

The federal government has begun the refund of N148 billion spent by state governments to repair federal roads in their states. Minister of information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, disclosed this to State House cor- respondents after the virtual fede- ral executive council meeting presi- ded over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa.
According to him, the be- neficiary states are Cross River N18,394,737,608.85, Ondo N7,822,147,577.08, Osun N2,468,938,876.78, Bayelsa N38,040,564,783.40 and Rivers N78,953,067,518.29.
Mohammed, who said the memo was presented by the mini- ster of Works and Housing Baba- tunde Fashola also warned there will be no reimbursement in futu- re, should any state government venture into such projects without the nod of the government at the center.
He said: “You will recall that in 2016, 36 states of the federation sent a very huge bill to the federal government, asking for compensation for money that they have ex- pended on federal roads.
“This prompted Mr. President to set up a committee to go and verify the claims of these 36 sta tes, whether indeed these projects were actually constructed, were they completed, in line with the federal government standards.”
…Approves N1.6bn Consul tancy Service For Second Abuja Runway In a related development, the federal government has approved N1.6 billion for consultancy services for the construction of a second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport, Abuja. Minister of Aviation, Hadi Siri- ka disclosed this while briefing Sta- te House correspondents, at the end of the 3rd virtual meeting of the council. He said the amount covers ser- vices for design and a consortium of consultants would be involved.
