The Delta state government is to set up five different camps in flood-prone areas in response to the warning of Nigeria’s climate agencies of imminent floods.

The move to accommodate those who may be displaced from the floods was announced at the state executive meeting.

Learning from previous experiences of flooding in Delta state resulting from the overflow of the River Niger and River Benue the government is taking proactive steps towards reducing the effects if it occurs this year.

According to the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency there is a steady rise into the Red Alert Zone of unto 6.26 metres of the flood level of River Niger Monitored Niamey, Niger Republic. What it translates to is that Nigeria being the outlet to the major rivers will suffer the consequences, hence the move by the Delta state government.

Also in preparation for the dry season when most construction works are done in state, the state executive council is fast-tracking the budget presentation and passage.

Keeping up with road construction drive to all nooks and crannies of the state, the 2.3km Beni Krukru road project in Warri North was approved.
