The Abia State House of Assembly has called for the resolution of the lingering border crises between the people of Umunneochi in Abia State and their neighbours from Ebonyi State especially at the Lokpanta quarry site where a security agent guarding the site fatally shot one Ikedi Christian Egwu of Umunneochi during one of the fracas.

The call followed a motion of Urgent Public Importance brought before the House by Hon Okey Igwe, Member representing Umunneochi State Constituency. In the motion, Igwe lamented how their Ebonyi neigbours have been repeatedly truncating the truce  between the two communities from both states involved in the crises brokered by security agents led by the Army.

He accused the people from the side of Ebonyi State of allowing the commercial value of the quarry rather than the need for peace to drive their actions. He lamented how in the course of such crises, the victim was fatally shot by a security agent. He therefore urged the House to call security agents operating in and around the State to order and request the National Boundary Commission, through the necessary State machinery, to come and properly demarcate the boundary causing the skirmishes, once and for all.

Supporting the motion, Hon Ginger Onwusibe, Paul Taribo, Nnamdi Allen Nwachukwu and Chijioke Chukwu, all lamented the loss of lives and requested the security agents to ensure a sustenance of the truce to avoid further skirmishes and loss of lives.

In his own reaction, the Speaker, Rt Hon Chinedum Orji expressed his regrets that the border crisis has led to a loss of life, saying "We can't continue to keep quiet over such unfortunate incidents particularly the loss of a life.

The House therefore resolved that the relevant security agents that brokered the truce already in place go a step further to ensure that both sides respect the truce until a lasting solution be found to the issue. A committee to investigate and make recommendations on the border crisis was set up with the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Ifeanyi Uchendu, as Chairman. Other members of the committee are Hon Kelechi Onuzuruike, Hon Chukwudi Apugo, Hon Ginger Onwusibe and Hon Emeka Okoroafor
