Spain's Supreme Court on Wednesday upheld Lionel Messi’s  21-month suspended prison sentence over three counts of tax fraud, a judicial source confirmed..

Messi and his father were charged with using tax havens in Uruguay and Belize and shell companies in the United Kingdom and Switzerland, to avoid paying taxes.

It is believed that the two men avoided paying €4.1 million(US$4.6 million) in taxes.

Besides serving seven months for each charge, the Barcelona superstar has also been fined more than €2million.

However, as the prison sentence is under two years, the Argentine will most likely be handed a suspended sentence.
