The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), said the scheme is committed to empower corps members with skills to enable them become self-reliant and employers of labour after the service year, DailyTrust reports.

Brig-Gen Suleiman Kazaure, stated this after he inspected the ongoing construction of NYSC Integrated Skills Acquisition and Vocational Centre for the north- East zone located in Gombe state.

He said similar centre would be constructed in each of the six geo-political zone of the country.

“If you look at the numbers of corps members we are producing no government or private organizations can employ them all. We decided to establish six acquisition centres so that they can be trained and to be self-employed,” Brig-Gen Kazaure said.

Our correspondent report that the project is in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Bank of Industry (BOI).

NYSC state Coordinator in Gombe, Mr Ibeh Chidube, said the centre has the capacity to accommodate 500 corps members and 20 facilitators.
