Anambra is not against Buhari's Leadership - Chief Umeh

Chief Victor Umeh, a former national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, on Thursday said Anambra State was not against the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Umeh said the explanation had become necessary because of the bad impression being fed to the president by some members of the All Progressives Congress from the state, The Punch reports.
He asked the president to call the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, to order over his hate comments which are capable of causing a breach of the peace in the state.
He said the All Progressives Congress should not allow Ngige to cause disaffection for it amongst the people of the area by his utterances and actions.
Ngige had during a south-east APC meeting at Alor, Anambra state said the conduct of the Anambra central rerun was not in sight because of ligation trailing it.
He said, “INEC had appealed the judgment of Justice Chikere of the Federal High Court, who ruled that PDP can present a new candidate. APC is also at the Court of Appeal against the ruling of Justice Chikere because the court cannot be speaking from both sides of its mouth.
“Unless these court processes are determined, no election will take place in Anambra Central.”
Umeh said such comments could aggravate the anger of the people of the district who had been desirous to have a representative in the senate for nearly two years.
He said, “My reaction first is to state clearly that there is no legal impediment anymore against the conduct of this Anambra central election that has been pending.
“I’m surprised to read these audacious statements by Dr Chris Ngige, where he said the Anambra central rerun poll cannot hold. My surprise stems from the fact that I could not fathom under what capacity Ngige was saying categorically that the poll can never take place.
“The cases Ngige was citing in his outburst clearly cannot stop INEC from conducting that election. The issue of the eligible candidates who can take part in a court-ordered fresh election or rerun election has been settled by the Supreme Court of Nigeria in its judgment in a case between Labour Party and INEC, which was delivered in 2009.
“Unfortunately, people like Ngige are pretending not to know this position of the law.
“The boast by Ngige is suggestive that the APC and government are dictating to INEC on how to conduct its affairs.”
