Breaking: President Buhari departs Abuja for a medical vacation

President Muhammadu Buhari has left Abuja on a 10-day medical visit to the United Kingdom earlier than was stipulated in the letter sent to the senate on Thursday.

According to the letter which was read at plenary today, the President was going on leave starting from Monday, January 23, 2017, but aides to the President were abruptly summoned to the airport today to see the President off,  sparking general concern that the president might be sick.

The letter read, “In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 constitution as amended, I wish to inform the Distinguished Senate that I will be away n a short medical vacation from Monday January, 23 to February 6th, 2017 and while I am away, the Vice President (Osinbajo) will perform the functions of my office.

“Please, accept, as always assurances of my highest esteemed consideration.”
