Abia PDP flags Off Campaign ; Charges Candidates on People Oriented Campaigns

The Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, in Abia State has flagged off its campaign for the December 17 Local Government Elections in the state.

Speaking at the event, the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu after handing over the party's flag to the candidates enjoined them to focus on people oriented campaigns in consonance with his administration's five pillars which includes education, Agriculture, health, oil and gas and Small and Medium Enterprises.

The Governor reminded the candidates that they are to be servant leaders and must seek the support and corporation of those they contested with at the primaries for effective representation.

He described the day as historic because of the realization of the dreams to have elected officials at the grassroots and symbolizes the strength and support of the party for her candidates who must win fairly and squarely.

Governor Ikpeazu called on the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC, to ensure the conduct of a transparent, free, fair and credible polls. He called on the party to remember that though she desires to win at all the Local Governments in the state, the must adhere strictly to the rules of the game.

While calling on them to eschew evil and violence especially on the election day, Governor Ikpeazu reminded the candidates that they serve as mediators between the government and the people and must ensure they represent them well.

Chairman of the party, Johnson Onuigbo noted that the candidates were carefully selected by the party to fly their flags and must not fail for any reason.

He said as a competitive election, the party must work together to ensure victory at the poll and called on them to also ensure the emergence of their councillors for effective representation at all levels.
