Abia State Police Force Reels out Achievements, Parades Suspects

The Abia State Police Command has rolled out its achievements under the new Commissioner of Police, Adeleye Oyebade in the past one month. This is coming as Abia State experienced absolute peace during the last Eid-El-Kabir celebration.

Commissioner of Police, Abia State, Adeleye Oyebade addressing newsmen at the state Headquarters in Umuahia said the new face of policing in the state is anchored on collaboration, commitment and corporation of members of the public.

He thanked Abians for reposing confidence on the police and for the release of reliable and relevant information to the police, which he said has helped in its proclivity.

According to Oyebade, the incessant child theft, kidnapping and robbery on Abia highway would soon become a thing of the past as the force is poised to leave no hiding place for criminals.

The Commissioner of Police reassured citizens of the state of the police's readiness to respond to distress calls on time and to improve proactiveness in the discharge of their duties.

He further emphasized on the need for everyone to be security conscious, noting that suspicious movements are disasters waiting to happen. Oyebade added that the police would continue to maintain, sustain and improve on the tempo of security in state, while insisting that it must continue to discourage the demand and receiving of ransom by kidnappers.

On herdsmen/farmers dispute, the Commissioner said the communiqué signed at the end of the recent meeting of both parties in Umuahia, would soon be made public and to become binding on all.
He said the Divisional Police Officers, DPOs, in the affected communities have been charged to set up committees on peace resolution to ensure that both farmers and herdsmen live peacefully among themselves.

While parading the suspects, CP Oyebade revealed that Joseph Godwin who lives at Ogwo Road, Aba, robbed and killed Joel Effiong on August 31,2016 was arrested on September 9, following a tip off. He confessed to the crime, while investigations are ongoing to arrest the other fleeing suspects. 
Also, Sunday Johnson, Tochukwu Ndukwe, Kalu Ibeabuchi, James Ogbonnaya and Okpo Onyike,all of Okoko Item were arrested and plasma television, locally made pistol, and home theatre were found in their possession.

Other achievements of the police includes the recovery of stolen vehicles, one of which belongs to a staff of Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State, BCA, and was stolen where parked, arrest of child traffickers and rescue of a child, arrest of cultists, kidnappers and rescue of their victims.

The Commissioner explained that five MASSOB members arrested by the 145 Battalion of the Nigerian Army were handed over to the command and would soon be handed over to the Zone 9 Headquarters, Umuahia for investigation.
