Abia State Govt. Warns Market Chairmen Against Opposing Revenue Collection

Abia State government has warned that it will deal decisively with anybody or group of persons that obstruct the collection of revenue by government approved persons in various markets in the state. factnewsonline reports that the Deputy governor, Ude Okochukwu stated this at a meeting with local government chairmen and zonal secretaries of market unions in the state.

Speaking at the event held at Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, Deputy Governor, Ude Okochukwu noted that the current economic situation has made states to explore ways of diversifying their various economies to meet the needs of the people. He said this calls for collaborations between stakeholders in all the various markets to help coordinate the revenue generated to ease the burden on government.

Okochukwu lamented that some chairmen ad executives of various market unions obstruct the collection of revenue but government approved agents, hence, the dwindling revenue generated in the past three months. He described the actions as discouraging and warned them to desist from such acts or be made to face government’s wraths.

Commissioner for trade and Investment, Kate Nwosu said the meeting was geared towards facilitating the best ways of revenue generation and coordination in the state. 

In their separate speeches, the chairmen of various markets including Ariaria and Uratta markets assured of their total support for present administration in revenue generation.

The commissioner for transport Nnenna Obewu and her Trade and Investment counterpart, Henry Ikoh were present at the event.
