Abia State Govt Sets Up Committee on Illegal Tax Collection

Abia state government has set up a committee to arrest all those collecting illegal revenue from citizens and businessmen in Aba and other parts of the state.

Commissioner for Information, comrade Bonnie Iwuoha while briefing the press at the end of an emergency Executive Council meeting today, said government is aware and worried that several groups operating within the state are collecting sundry revenue from the citizens without government approval.

To that end, he said that all those caught in the ugly act will be prosected.
He disclosed that the EXCO ratified the report from the Finance and General Purposes Committee with the award of the contract for the lighting of Umudike, BCA, secretariat Road, Umuahia.

Comrade Iwuoha gave other contracts awarded by the government to include the renovation of the child and maternal ward at the Abia State University Teaching hospital at the cost of about N65 m, the contract for the 14.5km Umuocheala-Abayi Road in Isiala Ngwa South LGA, the contract for the 7.5km Nbawsi- Eziala-Osusu-Okpuala Ngwa Road and the contract for the Abayi Ariaria- Umuakpara Road.

Other contracts approved by the government, the commissioner said include the 4.5 km Faulks Road and the rehabilitation and expansion of the Ifeobara pond at the cost of N6.8 b as well as the contract for the 6.15km Amuda Isuochi Road in Umunneochi LGA at the cost of N836.2m. among others.

According to him, government expects contractors handling the projects to do quality work that will stand the test of time and warned that those that do not stick to specifications will be sanctioned.
