The National caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party have selected Ali Modu Sheriff to become the next acting chairman of the party.

Sheriff, who was a former governor of Borno State was picked by the members of the National Caucus who met on Tuesday afternoon at the party’s national secretariat, Abuja after former EFCC Chairman, Malam Nuhu Ribadu reportedly turned down the position.

Sheriff's nomination will have to be ratified by the members of the Board of Trustees and the party's National Working Committee (NEC) who are currently still meeting to discuss to either reject or accept the former governor as the party’s chairman.

Sheriff who was a founding member of the ruling All Progressives Congress has a few controversies around him, as he had been allegedly been linked to be a sponsor of the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist group.
