In line with its quest for an efficient and robust pay roll management system in the state, the Nasarawa state government has gone into partnership with Skye Bank Plc on the deployment of pay roll solutions as well as the execution of a biometrics data capture of all the civil servants in the state.

This is to eliminate fraud and ensure that salaries are centrally coordinated for efficiency. The staff biometrics data capture would enable the state to have a reliable and current data base of the civil servants in the state to prevent fraud and block loopholes that currently exist.

Inaugurating the exercise in Lafia, Nasarawa State Governor, Alhaji Tanko Umaru Al-Makura, said the data capture exercise had become necessary in view of the alarming increase in wage bill of the state following the implementation of the minimum wage.

Al-Makura clarified that the exercise was not aimed at retrenching civil servants but targeted at ensuring that salaries were centrally coordinated for efficiency in salary payment and disbursement.

He said his government was keen in putting in place an efficient payroll system that would eliminate inefficiency, loopholes for fraud and abuse through which the state loses money.

He noted that the choice of Skye Bank as a partner in making the idea a reality was borne out of the bank’s experience and track record in developing effective payroll systems for states and local governments.

“Government is committed to bringing on board a platform for improved integrity in the payment of salaries. It is our duty and responsibility as government to know the actual number of staff working in the state," he said, and directed the civil servants to make themselves available for the exercise in their own interest.

The governor expressed hope that the new electronic payroll system would bring benefits to both the state and the civil servants through timely salary administration and the elimination of errors and abuse inherent in the old system.

Also speaking at the occasion, the bank’s Head of Public Sector, Abuja/North Central, Mr. Hassan Umar, said the bank’s antecedents and track record in electronic payroll system administration have endeared it to several state governments, ministries and agencies.
