SHEKARAU WADES IN TO END POLY LECTURERS' STRIKE

The Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, on Thursday met with the striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), and pledged to make efforts towards the speedy resolution of the nine month strike.
Shekarau, who met with the National Executive Committee of ASUP in his first official assignment also appealed to the union to suspend the strike while negotiations continue.
He noted that all issues raised by the union are surmountable challenges through dialogue, understanding and a spirit of 'give and take'.
Shekarau also appealed for time to settle down and study the issues which have caused the impasse.
"Consider going back to the classroom while we are on these issues, we will tackle them with speed and alacrity, and gradual resolution of the issues combined would go a long way in resolving this matter," he said.
