Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has mocked All Progressives Congress (APC) on its plans to reconcile with its members who were aggrieved.
Tunji Shelle, Chairman of the PDP in Lagos State, who spoke to Factnewsonline yesterday, mocked the APC national leadership for establishing a committee headed by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, to reconcile its aggrieved members across the country.
After the national convention of the APC on June 14, the party realized that many of its members were expressing unhappiness with the treatment they received from the party leadership, while others had started deserting the party and defecting to other political parties. It was as a result of this that the party leadership headed by former governor of Edo State, John Odigie Oyegun set up the Atiku committee.
But Shelle told factnewsonline that the party was wasting its time setting up the committee because the party consisted of strange bedfellows that would not work together. Boasting that his party was not bothered by anything happening in the APC, Shelle declared: “Why should we be bothered about the APC? They are doing their thing; we are doing our thing. But they can never agree because their party is made up of many strange bed fellows.”
He said the PDP had thought APC was a serious party until they (PDP) realised the sham the party was. He said their interest was not on what APC was doing, but to prepare themselves to serve Nigerians better in the coming years. “Before, we thought they were serious, but we have found out that they are very small and very little. They are no match to us; their leadership is in shambles; the centre can no longer hold. Our interest now is to serve Nigerians better and not what the APC is doing.”
He boasted that having defeated the party in Ekiti State, that his party was poised to defeat them again in Osun State “because the people have rejected them”.
In an earlier news report, spokesperson of APC in Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe had expressed support for the APC committee, saying that the committee was necessary because every human being was important and as such must not be underrated. He had declared: “Nobody is a zero person in this world as long as that person is sane. No person is less important and everybody can make the difference. That is why the APC is not leaving anybody behind in our quest to make difference in governance in Nigeria.”
He stated further that one vote was important in any political environment since one single vote could make the difference. “United States of America (USA) is speaking English today and not French because of just one vote. One person will can determine your fate so we cannot joke with that one person; we will not leave anybody behind” he had said.
