Contrary to reports making rounds that former Nigerian President of the Second Republic, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, has passed on, thre family has come out to debunk the rumours.
Also the personal assistant to the Second Republic president and head of the Shehu Shagari Foundation, Dr Atiku Nuhu Koko, who also confirmed the report orebuffed the news of Shagari’s death already circulating on the online media.

Koko said “Shagari is alive.”

The former President who had maintained a low profile had been in the Public glare lately, first with his attendance early February at the Council of State meeting where INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega and Security Chiefs briefed the council before it was later decided to shift the polls based on security advice.

The former President was also in the news barely a month ago when on the 25th of February, he celebrated his 90th birthday alongside President Goodluck Jonathan and other former Heads of state in Sokoto.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Presidential flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, were conspicuously absent.

Upon arrival from his London trip, Buhari had headed straight to Sokoto to celebrate with Shagari in arrears.

Shagari holds the aristocratic title of Turakin Sakkwato in the Sokoto Caliphate.

He worked as a teacher for a brief period before entering politics in 1954 upon which he was elected to the federal House of Representatives.
