INEC to conduct field test of card readers in 12 states

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said it will test run the card  readers in 12 states of the federation on Saturday March 7, to verify their functionality ahead of the general elections.

In a statement by the Commissions Secretary, Ishiaku Gali, the field testing will take place in two states each of the nations six geo political zones simultaneously.
The states include ;
Ekiti and Lagos - South West
Anambra and Ebonyi - South East
Delta and Rivers - South South
Kano and Kebbi - North East,and
Niger and Nassarawa - North Central.

The statement noted that the proposed meeting between INEC Chairman Prof. Attahiru Jega and Resident Electoral Commissioners was postponed to allow the supervision and test running of the cards.
The electoral umpire also charged the Resident Electoral Commissioners with the responsibility of selecting registration area with full compliments of the Permanent Voter Cards and with appreciable distribution level, to be thorough.
They will also ensure the appropriate registration of voters in respect of all polling units in the selected registration areas for the conduct of the exercise.
