The United States has maintained that it is committed to fighting the Boko Haram sect and ensuring a peaceful,free,fair and transparent polls at the March and April polls.

The Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield and the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Doung Frantz expressed the concern of the U.S government during the State Department's online Interactive International Press conference held in Lagos.

They however, emphasized on the importance of achieving  successful elections in Nigeria to Africa, adding that Nigeria contributes alot to the future of democracy not just to Africa but the entire world.

The duo noted that the US is playing a critical role at encouraging electronic voting and fraud elimination in the electoral process in Africa, with special focus on Nigeria.

They urged journalists in Nigeria  to be objective and honest in their reportage of the elections, while condemning the allegation that the Federal Government was denying foreign journalists visa to cover the elections.
They also reassured that with the recent active roles of the Nigerian Military to combat insurgency,elections will hold in the affected northeastern states.
