Baring any urgent intervention by the federal government, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics,ASUP,may resume their earlier suspended strike.

The decision to embark on another industrial action followed an alleged suspension of the implementation of CONTISS 15 salary structure in the Polytechnics, through a circular by the Education Minister, Ibrahim Shekarau, directing the special salary structure to be discontinued, and the failure of the government to implement a number of demands agreed with the union in 2009.

Nigeria's technical education for a better part of 2014 grounded academic activities, following an indefinite strike called by the Academic Staff of Polytechnics and the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union over governments failure to honour its 2009 agreements.

According to reports, the strike action will also involve other counterpart unions such as Non Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, NASUP, and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics,SSANP.
