Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State has countered the allegations by the Delta State Pensioners during a protest at the state capital,Asaba, last week.Adding that his administration rolls out #1.2billion to pensioners monthly.
The governor, who stated this at a meeting with retired civil servants,in Asaba, maintained that his government has spent #18billion since the inception of the contributory scheme in 2007.
Uduaghan reiterated the commitment of the state in ensuring the payment of pensioners, while explaining that a counterpart fund of over #18billion has been made, with a contribution from salaries put at #13.7billion,with the Pension Fund Administrators.

He described as unfair and mischevious, the protest and address by the Contributory Retirees of State. "It is regrettable that somebody is using them to misinform. They are politicising pension matters and its quite unfortunate",the governor added.
Governor Uduaghan however, urged the Pension Fund Administrators to endeavour to meet the needs of the pensioners, revealing that the agreed resolutions in wages by the federal government is not binding on states,"if the federal government does not involve states in negotiations, the circulars would not be binding on the states but rather open windows for them to negotiate with their own workers".
Meanwhile ,the President of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Delta State Chapter,Ogbueshi Robert Chukwunyem, has apologised to the Governor, over the actions of the Contributory Retirees Association, while thanking him for ensuring prompt payment of pensioners in the state.
