The Aba Amalgamated Traders Association, the umbrella body of different market  unions operating in Aba  and its environs, has adopted Dr. Alex Otti, a governorship aspirant on the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), in Abia State, as their preferred candidate for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

The traders, who announced their position when a delegation of the association paid a solidarity visit to Dr Otti at his country home in Umuru, Nvosi community in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of the state explained that their decision to back the APGA candidate was informed by their conviction that he possessed the capacity and credibility to salvage Abia from ruins.

Leader of the delegation Mr Innocent Nwachukwu, who presented a catalogue of woes being faced by traders in Aba through a prepared speech, lamented that they had suffered many years of neglect and alienation in the hands of successive administrations in the state.

‘’We have sought for a man who will deliver us from the doldrums and lead us into wealth creation for the development of the state. Due to your humble background, we are convinced that you are the man who will appreciate the level of suffering of the masses when you become governor,’’ the traders said.

“Among the challenges besetting Aba, bad road networks ranked highest because it has scared off existing and potential customers from patronising us”, just as they added that the business environment of Aba had dwindled greatly.", he said.

According to the traders, they were in the aspirant’s house to convey their collective resolve to work with him to ensure his success at the polls because they believe in him and also know his antecedents as it relates to management of people and resources.

In his brief remarks, Dr Otti assured the traders of his commitment to transform the road networks in Enyimba city to modern standards in order to alleviate the suffering of the masses of Abia and reinvigorate their hope for a better life when he assumed the reins of power next year.

Already, he told his guests that he had designed a blueprint for the transformation of Aba from a back water state to the Dubai of Africa beginning from the first month of assumption of duties as the governor of Abia State because he had found the requisite funds to prosecute the projects at no stress to the state coffers or reliance on federal allocation.

He explained that his linkage with international funding organisations would be deployed to the benefit of the greatest population of Abians in order to break what looked like a jinx holding God’s own state from making significant progress since creation, emphasising that his resolve to contest politics was informed by a strong thirst to sacrifice for the future of Abians and their posterity.

According to him, Abia people will watch in awe the miracle that God will be bringing to state under his leadership because all the amenities that looked impossible to be established by successive administrations in the state would be dropping cheaply for them because he will lead according to the designs of God.

Giving a peep into his blueprint, the banking icon informed his excited guests that his administration will touch every area of concern of Abians starting from turning Aba into a construction site by embarking on a massive construction of roads including building of three flyovers on Aba-Owerri road by Ngwa High school, Ogbor Hill and Port Harcourt road for purposes of facilitating free flow of traffic within Aba metropolis.

He also disclosed that his administration would embark on construction of a modern monorail that will crisscross the state, adding that an industrial park will be built to bolster the translation of creativity and business ideas of Abians into tangible products.

While assuring Nigerians living in the state of his determination to abolish non-indigene policy in the state on the first day of assumption of office, Dr Otti also praised them for being law abiding and however urged them to be fearless in pursuing a just and egalitarian society.
