Joe Igbokwe warns Igbo business men

Joe Igbokwe, the Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, has warned Igbo leaders and businessmen, who are brazenly supporting President Goodluck Jonathan to beware of the coming of Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria’s next President.

He said Jonathan has so messed up things in the country that the coming of Buhari as the country’s next president to correct the anomalies has become inevitable. He said when that happens, that many of those supporting Jonathan today would most certainly be tarred with the corruption inherent in his government.

Igbokwe said of Buhari, “The man is coming, better leave now. Those who left their businesses and are driving around with Jonathan all over Nigeria, especially Igbo traders, who are neck deep into this, should get the message that Buhari is coming. Many of them have shown that they are not learning anything; you cannot see Mike Adenuga or Dangote doing what they are doing” he said.

He told Factnewsonline that Buhari’s reputation as a disciplined, corrupt-free and no-nonsense advocate of integrity and due process will come to bear on the polity, and that those who have aired in the past will not escape. He went on to state that those who threw caution to the dogs by joining in the rape of Nigeria will definitely pack their bags and baggage to run away or end up in prison.

Speaking further of the indiscretion of some supposed Igbo leaders in their support of Jonathan, Igbokwe said: “They behave as if they do not know that tomorrow is coming. They must be mindful, Buhari is coming o! I am advising them as my fellow Igbo people, go back to your businesses; if you want to make donations, use your brain in doing that, because the system will see you as a saboteur when Buhari comes, and power changes hands.”

He said that Buhari’s coming has become necessary as corruption in Nigeria appears to have rubbished all the efforts and sacrifices that were made by pro-democracy groups in the country to bring about democracy.

According to him, what is going on in the country at the moment was far from what many of them fought for to bring about the current democratic dispensation in the country. He went on to express sadness that those who took the centre-stage at the berthing of democracy were actually people who did not raise a finger against military rule or joined the fight against it. He argued that they were rather people who worked against the struggle by aligning with the soldiers to kill Nigerians.

His words: “But before you know what is happening, interlopers seized the centre-stage and became ministers and became governors – people who worked against democracy. I cite Orji Uzor Kalu as example… Ojo Maduekwe is one of them. These were the people that seized the centre-stage. They never raised a finger against military rule.”
