Popular governorship aspirant of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Reagen Ofomba on Friday continued with his humanitarian work and goodwill to the people of Abia State, when he lent a helping hand to the family of Chima Igboecheonwu.

Igboecheonwu’s wife had delivered quadruplets at Saint Anthony hospital Aba few days ago and was in dare need of help. It would be recalled that the news of the delivery of the quadruplets broke last week. It was a development that most people believed should attract support from the state government and well-meaning Nigerians, especially those from the eastern part of the country.

But a check back on the state of the woman and her quadruplets showed that not much had come their way in terms of assistance. According to Mrs. Ibe, a senior nurse at the hospital, “After what seemed like a gathering of cloud for showers of Blessings for this woman and her kids, considering the number of people that came here and promised that they would take the information to those in authority, and that they were sure help would come, yet up till now nobody has shown up with any form of help for the kids and their mother”

Speaking on the state of the babies she said the babies needed to be incubated because of their weight and some other health implications, which was what the hospital did. “We pray and hope the babies will survive but it is heart-breaking that up till now, nobody from the government has shown support for these babies, it is difficult for a mother of one baby to take care of her talk more of quadruplet, it is a blessing for this state but it is very sad that no one has shown up to assist.

She said the father of the children was not able to foot the bill for the incubation of the children, and that they were hoping that God would touch some people’s hearts to offer some help them.

A visit to the nursing mother, Jane Nganwuchu in the ward, revealed a troubled mother, who though was recovering, had that stressful look of a nursing mother who does not have her babies around her as they were still being incubated.

The matron of the Hospital Mrs. Celine Mgbenwelu who also spoke to Factnews assured that the situation was not hopeless but deserved urgent attention if the four babies were to remain alive. She said the hospital decided to keep monetary gains aside and ensure that the babies’ lives were saved by moving them into incubation without any deposit, which was not the normal process.

This was the situation before Ofomba made a surprise visit to the hospital to see the woman and the babies. Dressed in his white senator suit, Ochiagha on landing at the hospital headed to the ward where he sang and prayed for the woman and the babies. He also made a cash donation of 100, 000 Naira to assist in offsetting the hospital bills.

He also commended the management and staff of Saint Anthony hospital for a job well done. “I thank you all for a job well done, when I heard that such safe delivery that demands high expertise in medical field was carried out here in Nigeria and in Aba precisely I became happy that despite the decay in our health sector, we still have some quality medical personnel in the system who can still carry out their duties excellently” he said.

Igboecheonwu and his wife Jane, the parents of the quadruplets thanked Chief Ochiagha Reagan Ofomba for coming to their aid in their time of need. "These kids will forever remain grateful to you and God for giving them life, we don't know what else to say than to say Thank you and may God richly bless and reward you"

There was huge celebration in the hospital as Ofomba donated the cash awards. The matron thanked Chief Ochiagha Reagan Ofomba for his kind gesture and also called on the government and other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate what Ochiagha has done and follow. She stressed that Politics was about service to the people and responding to the cry of the less privileged.
