The Abia State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Allwell Asiforo Okere has described as shameful and deceitful the alleged comment by former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu that the Federal Government is responsible for the ongoing massive rehabilitation of roads in Aba. Mr. Okere stated this on Monday in a chat with newsmen in Umuahia. In a video that went viral on social media, Abia State former Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu claimed that the federal government was the one executing the road projects and not Abia State government. Mr. Okere- a former state lawmaker wondered why the federal government should embark on the repair of roads in Aba when it's battling to rehabilitate roads under Its jurisdiction.

He said "Orji Uzor Kalu is in the red chamber and he wants his brother to be in the green chamber of the National Assembly. He is playing with the sensibility of Abians as if Abians have no sense of history. Our people are not in a hurry to forget the past".

He continued "I'm happy when he said his brother will be "omekannaya". What it means is that his younger brother will continue with the woeful performance of Nnanna Kalu who wasted 8 years in the House of Representatives. Did Nnanna Kalu pass any motion? Did he attract any project to Aba? It's left for Aba people to decide if that is what they want".

Mr. Okere who described Chimaobi Ebisike as the most qualified, said he was born and raised in Aba and therefore was aware of the yearnings and aspirations of the people. He said PDP's standard-bearer cannot be compared to the other candidates who reside in other parts of the country and overseas but return to Aba only during the period of election.

"Chimaobi is a complete Aba man. The mother is from Nkwere while the wife is from Mbaise both in Imo state. He will not discriminate against anyone. What we need is somebody that is a true Aba man by all standards. He (Chimaobi) knows the challenges facing the people unlike the other candidates".

The PDP Chairman explained that there was no crack in the party following the emergence of Chimaobi Ebisike. He said all the aspirants were present the day the party's candidate was chosen adding that the former aspirants are the ones spearheading the campaign.

On the ongoing rehabilitation of roads in Aba, he said the Okezie Ikpeazu administration had commenced work before the announcement of Saturday's bye-election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He therefore called on Aba people to vote for the PDP candidate, Chimaobi Ebisike on Saturday.
