Abia govt will support Nigerian prisons to develop shoe/garment industry in Aba - Ikpeazu

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has assured that his adminstration will support the Human Resource Development Centre of the Nigeria Correctional Service towards ensuring the successful completion of it's Shoe and Garment Industry at the Aba Medium Correctional Center.

Governor Ikpeazu gave the assurance when he recieved at Government House Umuahia the new Comptroller, Nigerian Correctional Services, Abia State Command, Julius Ezugwu.

He said that Abia is known as the home of SME because of its giant strides in the leather and garment Industry, and expressed delight that the Nigerian Correctional Services has keyed into the transformation agenda of his administration by establishing a Shoe and Garment Factory in Aba, shortly after his administration established a similar venture in Aba.

Governor Ikpeazu who appreciated the strategic importance of the Nigerian Correctional Services as a centre for character reformation and reintegration, promised to support the new Comptroller to enable him excel in his duties.

Governor Ikpeazu acknowleged the new dimensions of crime globally and stressed the need for all players in the system to be proactive and deploy science and technology in line with the 21st century demands.

He applauded the Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Services, Abia State Command for their hardwork and determination and encouraged them to continue to show courage and tenacity in the discharge of their duties.

Earlier in his address, the new Comptroller of the Nigeria Correctional Services Abia State Command, Julius Ezugwu said that the Human Resource Development Centre is a major focus of the NCS aimed at meaningful reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of the inmates on discharge from custody.

He appreciated the state government's continued support towards ensuring the successful completion of the Shoe and Garment industry at the Aba Medium Security Custodial Centre as well as the state government's efforts in creating enabling environment for the Nigerian Correctional Service to discharge their duties.

The Comptroller requested the Governor to enlist them in the membership of the state security architecture, especially in the State Security Council, he said will avail them opportunity to contribute meaningfully in the administration of criminal justice process for the security of the state.

The Comptroller was accompanied by some senior officers of the State Command while the Security Adviser to the Governor, Captain Awa (Rtd) and the Senior Special Assistant on Homeland Security to the Governor, Mr.Chigozie Onyeukwu Ubani joined the Governor to receive the delegation.
