Lagos state Governor, Babatunde Fashola has urged those migrating to Lagos State from other states to always ensure that they have secured a place of residence before moving in to reside in the state.

He said the urge was to reduce the high influx, which he puts at 3,000 daily, which he said causes slums, and as a result, insecurity, health challenges and improper accommodation.

Fashola who made the call at an event to commemorate the year 2014 World Habitat Day, organised by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development also warned residents to desist from building without approval from relevant government agencies.

The governor who was represented at the event by his Deputy, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, blamed rapid development of slums to lack of respect for regional master plan, and failure to obtain necessary building approvals.

He fingered land owners popularly known as 'Omooniles' and their un-cooperative attitude towards government officials as a setback in the state government efforts to check the unwholesome development in the state.

The governor urged landowners to adhere to master plan of the area by liaising with government officials before disposing off their lands, saying prospective land buyers must obtain approved building permits that would be strictly observed.
