Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has dedicated her national honour to her parents and teammates in the Falconets and Super Falcons..

The Rivers Angels' lethal finisher was among the selected sportsmen and women honoured on Monday by the government for their sterling individual achievement in their chosen sports career.

Oshoala helped the Falconets to finish second behind winners,Germany at the 2014 Fifa Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada where she won the most valuable player and highest goal scorer awards.

Speaking shortly after she received her Member of Order of the Niger (MON) award from President Goodluck Jonathan, Oshoala said she is overwhelmed with joy to be appreciated by the federal government.

"It's my second time to have a handshake with the president and I’m really happy about it because there are lots of Nigerians out there wishing to just see him not to talk of having a handshake with him.

"Being privileged for this second opportunity to shake hands with him I’m simply overwhelmed with happiness and I know it is the grace of God at work in my life. For me it's really a dream come true.

"I dedicate the award to God Almighty Allah, who has kept faith with me and who has been with me ever since I started playing football up to this moment.

“I also dedicate the award to my parents and family members who are always praying for me. I also thank my teammates, especially the under-20 side the Falconets, who helped me to score those goals that gave me the award and not forgetting my teammates too in the Super Falcons as well as the present and past teammates at FC Robo and Rivers Angels.

“I also thank my coaches who have trained me and made me what I am at the moment and to my teeming fans and everyone I say a big thank you.

"I feel great and appreciate that there are senior colleagues who are greater than me but they’re yet to get this unique award. It’s a sign that God has done marvellously well for me and I won't relax on this I will strive to achieve more," said the Nigerian goal-poacher.

Oshoala is among the 21-player list named on Monday by Falcons head coach Edwin Okon to contest the upcoming Africa Women's Championship (AWC) in Namibia next month.
