Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji has dedicated the National Award of the Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) conferred on him by President Goodluck Jonathan, to Abia people. He said that dedicating the award to people of the state was as a result of their immense support for the policies and programmes of his government.

Orji who stated this while addressing Abia Stakeholders who came to pay him homage at the Governor's Lodge, Abuja, after the award ceremony, said he would not have accomplished much to qualify for the national honour if not for the support of people of the state.

He said the award had challenged him to post more legacy achievements in the state before his exit in 2015. Governor Orji said the award which was the first to be conferred on a sitting governor of Abia State, called for celebration by all Abia people who have faith in Abia cause.

The Governor also noted that more Abians, for the first time, received the national honours award at various categories, and saw it as the result of his openness and magnanimity to nominate them. He solicited more support of Abians in the transformation of the state as championed by his administration. He vowed to leave the state better than he met it.

Going further in his speech, the Governor promised to continuously deploy the scarce resources of the state with much prudence so as to be able to achieve more results in the overall interest of the state. "Governance is all about the people not for self-aggrandizement," he said while “asking for continued unity among the people."
