Governor Ikpeazu's Futuristic Initiative Again Clears The Coast For PDP In Abia State - Don Ubani

Governance calls for vision and initiative. For one to govern well, one must, of necessity, be capable of thinking outside the box.

Governance should place as premium the security, welfare and happiness of the governed. These fundamental objectives can not be achieved if citizens lack opportunities to be meaningfully and gainfully employed, directly or indirectly.

As it is an established fact, governments are not the highest employers of labour. In any polity where the government is the highest employer of labour, it should be noted that something must be fundamentally wrong with such a society.
The world over, what the government does is to create enabling environment needed for the private sector to thrive. To be specific, Small and Medium Enterprises, SMEs, drive the economy of any nation. It is also the SMEs that create more than sixty percent of jobs for the teeming youth.

Following intervention by the Nigerian Military in the governance of the country in 1966 and discovery of crude oil in commercial quantity, initiative in governance became a thing of the past. Every government became lazily overdependent on cheap money from oil.

It is now obvious that dependence on a mono-cultural economy as  Nigeria has reduced itself to, can not be sustainable. Leaders have got to think outside the box.
In line with this thought, it is heartwarming to note that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State is already a pathfinder in this direction.

His administration has boldly conceptualized Enyimba Economic City. The City will have all the trappings of a Free Trade Zone.
On an area of almost nine thousand hectares of land, stretching from Ugwunagbo, Ukwa-East to Ukwa-West, the City will be an Investment haven that will create hundreds of thousand direct and indirect job opportunities.
The Economic City is naturally located to take maximum proximal advantages of the Seaports at Port-Harcourt, Onne  and Calabar. It also can take advantage of the Port-Harcourt-Maiduguri rail line.

Being a Free Trade Zone, manufacturers will enjoy lots of tax priviledges on their exportable products.
The Ikpeazu administration is mindful of challenges posed by electricity. It is, therefore, not relenting in this very essential area.

Above all, the Ikpeazu government knows that for a project of this magnitude to succeed in achieving its objective, the federal government must be in partnership with it.

The Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State is, therefore, filled with inestimable joy following the agreement signed between the Federal Government, Abia State Government and relevant interest groups yesterday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja before President Buhari and Governor Ikpeazu. By this agreement,  Enyimba Economic City has now been designated as a Special Economic Zone, SEZ.

In a situation where only three Special Economic Zones are created and Abia State, apart from Lagos and Kano, is one of the benefiting States, it goes a long way to establish that the Governor of the State is visionary and thinks outside the box.
The Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State thanks Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for making the Coast very clear for the Party in 2019. The Party is proud of her Governor and Leader and urges the Abia electorate to give maximum support and encouragement to the Peoples' Governor.
