A media consultant and the Director, OJA Development Consult, Mr. Jide Ojo has challenged journalists in Nigeria to get Armed with relevant laws of the land especially  the constitution and the electoral acts if they must discharge their duties effectively.
Mr. Ojo made the plea at a two day media workshop on best practices and professional reporting of the electoral process held in Enugu on November 12 and 13, 2018.
The media consultant and guru who spoke on different issues including " Reckoning with Accountability and Transparency Issues in  Electoral Reporting", maintained that nobody excels beyond the  knowledge of what the person knows.
He made a case for journalists to be effectively armed with various sections of the laws in a bid to become the best at what they do
Mr. Ojo reminded journalists that with the flag off of electoral campaigns beginning with the presidential on November 18, it has become imperative for journalists to hold them accountable with adequate statistics and legal backings to ensure issue based campaigns.
He revealed that the three stages of elections in Nigeria which includes the pre-election, election and post election stages are very critical in determining the way forward for the nation.
According to him, these stages are ignored because journalists are not armed with the basic issues with legal backings leaving them at the mercies of the pay masters
He called on media owners to put the interest of the public first before that of the pay masters noting that they owe their responsibilities first to the people.
Mr.Ojo however, called on attitudinal change as one of the way forward to ending impunity and enshrining transparency and accountability in reporting especially elections.
