Abia to set up quality assurance agencies

The Abia State Government will set up Standardization and Regulatory Agencies to ensure consistent high quality of Made-in-Aba products.

The Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, who disclosed this when he received members of DFID Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn team in his office, also informed that the State Government has sent thirty (30) youths to China, to learn automated shoemaking.

The Information boss noted that Donor Agencies are coming to Abia to work with the State Government because Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has remained transparent, accountable, capable and resolute in serving the people and made it clear that Abia is now on the path of progress.

Chief Okiyi Kalu commended DFID for coming to execute programs in the State describing Abia as one of the safest States in Nigeria and promised to support their activities in the state.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Dr Nnenna Chikezie, said her team is working with DFID to implement the program in the five (5) South Eastern States, adding that Abia and Enugu States have been selected for the commencement of the development program in the South East. She thanked the Commissioner for information for the role he played in bringing the program to the state and assured that the ministry of Women Affairs in the state will leverage on the program to improve the lot of Abians.

Contributing, the Finance and Operations Manager, DFID Partnership of Engage, Reform and Learn, Joan Okwuogu and a Consultant to the Organization, Dr Module Taiwo, informed the Commissioner that the organization is saddled with the responsibility of strengthening the policies of government and to ensure government is accountable, capable and responsible in serving the people.

They expressed satisfaction with the hospitality of Abia people and the peaceful atmosphere across the state, which according to them was contrary to what they heard outside the state and promised to spread the good news about the positive developments in the State.
