Following the treatise from Obasanjo on the need for a Coalition to wrestle power from the hands of the ruling party, the Nigeria Intervention Movement (NIM) has concluded plans to launch its third force at the end of February.

The group also expressed its willingness to work with the Obasanjo’s movement known as Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM), which was launched Wednesday and any other group willing to form an alliance to wrestle the country out from visionless leaders.

In a statement by Mallam Naseer Kura, Deputy Director General, the group said that the third force initiative was conceived to rescue Nigerians from the existing leadership incompetence and impunity in the country The statement reads in part, “Following massive acceptance and inquiries about NIM, the Nigeria Intervention Movement, NIM is compelled to announce its decision to formally launch its emergent Third Force umbrella rainbow movement at a major national political summit to be hosted by the movement at the last week of February in Abuja.

“NIM was conceived as a third force movement for the mobilization of Nigerians towards changing the socio-political contraption by democratic means on account of the failure of both the ruling APC and the opposition PDP to utilise the goodwill received from the peoples of Nigeria in the last 18 years “These elitist contraptions are ill-equipped and unprepared for the challenge of transforming our nation from its underdeveloped status to one that is prosperous and creates the environment for the realization of citizens’ potentials and aspirations.”

The statement also added that NIM was not the movement championed by former President Obasanjo but expressed its willingness to work with such groups and any other group with common interest.

It said, “It is important to note that the NIM welcomes the Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola- led Coalition of Nigeria Movement (CNM), an earlier launched Wale Ajani-led Coalition of Nigeria Movement (CONIM) as well as other groups such as Revive Nigeria Group, Restoration Group etc that aim to lead the country out of the current precipice. It also welcomes all men and women of goodwill across the country who are determined to see our nation out of the woods”.

The statement further disclosed dignitaries that will grace the occasion.

“Some of the national icons slated by NIM as special guests and speakers respectively at the Summit are Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, Col Abubarkar Umar Dangiwa and Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Mallam Adamu Ciroma, Prof Pat Utomi,General Alani Akinriade, Mr Donald Duke, Hajia Najatu Mohammed, Barr Olisa Agbakoba SAN, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Dr Garba Adamu, Femi Falana SAN, Prof Attahiru Jega, Mr Fola Adeola, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, Dr AbduJalil Tafawa Balewa, Mr Fela Durotoye among others.
