Katsina Senator To PMB: Cattle Colonies Solely At States’ Discretion

The senator representing Katsina South senatorial district, under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abu Ibrahim has said the establishment of cattle colonies, grazing routes and ranching is the prerogative of the states and not a national policy to be implemented by the federal government.
To proffer solution to the insecurity, Ibrahim has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly overhaul the security apparatus to end the incessant killings in the country. Stating that the security agencies are not doing enough to protect lives and property of the citizenry, Senator Ibrahim said both external and internal security should be strengthened to exercise professionalism and efficiency in their operations.
Speaking in an interview with LEADERSHIP, yesterday, the chairman of Senate Committee on Police, noted that even though the various attacks and killings in several parts of the country are seemingly politicized, there is no particular ethnic nationality that is fueling the killings as it is being alleged in certain quarters.
Noting further, he said the complexity of Nigeria has called for a review of security infrastructure because, according to him, the security agencies especially the police are underfunded and that there is need to enhance the welfare of security operatives.
“I think the issue of cattle colonies, grazing routes or ranching is at the discretion of states. States that believe in colonies will implement colonies, states that believe in ranches will implement it and states that believe in grazing routes should implement it. But obviously, this is honestly not a federal government affair but that of the states. The federal government can only come in rarely because of the security aspect of it but if it gets to the Executive Council to become a national policy, then, I think it will be wrong.
“The President must have to totally overhaul the security apparatus because it seems the security agencies are not working very well if armed bandits are penetrating or coming through our borders, and lives are being lost unnecessarily, it calls for concern,” he stated.
