Wayne Rooney climbed to joint-third place in the list of all-time Barclays Premier League goalscorers when he found the back of the net against QPR on Sunday.

Louis van Gaal was out in search of his first competitive win since taking the reins at Old Trafford and it came in style against Harry Redknapp's limp side.

Angel di Maria and Ander Herrera each scored their first goal for United, before Rooney bagged a third with a cool finish before the break.

The Manchester United skipper's 44th-minute strike left him on 175 Premier League goals, level with former Arsenal star Thierry Henry, but still 85 shy of Alan Shearer's record.

Eight of Rooney's Premier League goals came for boyhood club Everton, before he sealed a £27million Old Trafford move in 2004.

Since arriving in Manchester, under the wing over former boss Sir Alex Ferguson until 2013, the England international has never failed to reach double figures in a league campaign and propelled himself into an elite group of strikers on Sunday.
