Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, Senator Danjuma Goje (APC, Gombe) yesterday told the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola to resign if he cannot perform.

Raising a point of order during yesterday’s plenary, Goje said comments made by Fashola on the 2017 budget were ‘misleading and damaging’.

“I stand to speak on the very serious and damaging allegation against the Senate and the National Assembly by the minister of works. He has on many occasions misled the public and blackmail the National Assembly.

“The minister should remember that he is now a minister and this is National Assembly. He is not a governor and National Assembly is not Lagos State House of Assembly. We have many people, who were governors before him in this place. We are patriotic Nigerians here,” Goje, a former governor of Gombe State said.

He added that: “If he cannot do it since the ministry is a super ministry comprising three ministries let him do the needful. For now I will ceasefire to see the way the House of Representatives deal with since he has been summoned. If we are not satisfied, then we will now act.” Senate President Bukola Saraki expressed happiness that the issue was being handled by the House.

“We will wait for the outcome of his appearance at the House before we will take further action,” he said.
