The former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation,NNPC, Andrew Yakubu, on Wednesday failed to recover the $9.8m seized from him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Mr. Yakubu had filed an application before a Federal High Court in Kano asking the court to overturn an interim order of forfeiture secured by the EFCC in February for the cash.

Justice Zainab Abubakar of the Federal High Court in Kano who ruled on the filed by the counsel to Mr. Yakubu, Ahmad Raji, said the court has jurisdiction to hear the case, contrary to the argument of Mr. Raji.

The judge also ruled that the application seeking to set aside the case lacks basic legal framework and that the EFCC is competent according to Section 29 of its Act to seek for the order of interim forfeiture.
