One strong unifying factor in Nigeria is sports, especially football.

Nigerians irrespective of ethnic background, religious or political affiliation, support their male or female national teams during international football tournaments.

In order to ensure that the state excels in the beautiful game, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu says his administration will support the game of football through the hunt of young talents across the three zones of the State.

Ikpeazu made the disclosure when the management of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), led by its President, Amaju Pinnick made a courtesy call at the Government House Umuahia.

The governor noted that Abia is the only state in the country that sponsors three teams, adding a game village called ‘Nsulu Games village’ would soon be opened for all sporting activities.

NFF president, Pinnick, in his remark, said Abia is blessed with much potential, even as he described Enyimba International Football Club as the most successful team in Nigeria and also ranks among the best in Africa.

Pinnick called on Governor Ikpeazu to sustain the support for other teams to enable them to attain greater heights.

He pledged to assist in developing Enyimba as an international brand.
