Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, says he will hold a private funeral on January 20 when United States President-elect, Donald Trump, is inaugurated as President, not to mourn with Americans but to grieve over the death of Nigeria’s common sense.

This was as he declared that he is embarrassed to be in the same country as “imbeciles and morons”, and that his proposed funeral has nothing to do with US citizens over their choice of president in Donald Trump.

Barely five days to the US presidential election, Soyinka had vowed to shred his green card and leave the United States, U.S, if the Republican nominee, Donald Trump, wins the presidential election.

Following Trump’s victory at the election, Soyinka declared that he would hold onto his green card pending when the President-elect, Donald Trump assumes office.

But speaking on Monday at a media parley at Freedom Park, Soyinka, while analysing the reaction of Nigerians to his threat to tear his green card, after Donald Trump emerged the US president-elect, said he was planning his own Wolexit, an adaptation of Brexit.

According to him, “Why do Nigerians wail louder than the bereaved?

“I am embarrassed to occupy the same nation space as some imbeciles and morons.  I am planning my Wolexit, which could be internal or external.

“On the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration, I will have a private funeral keep to mourn the death of Nigeria’s common sense. If the board agrees (because I do not like to be authoritarian) I will move the residency of my foundation out of the country.”

The revered playwright insisted that Nigerians did not have the right to query his personal decision to tear his US green card.
