President Goodluck Jonathan will on Thursday lead government officials, corporate bodies and other philanthropists to raise fund in support of victims of terrorism across the country.

The fund which would be raised during a dinner scheduled for the Presidential Villa, Abuja, will be administered by the Victims Support Fund led by Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd).

Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, disclosed this to State House correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by Jonathan.

Maku said the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim, briefed the council of preparations being made towards a successful fund-raiser.

He urged all Nigerians to be prepared to contribute to the fund which is meant to put smiles on the faces of those who lost their breadwinners or property to the violence being unleashed on parts of the country by the Boko Haram sect.

The President had while playing host to the Muslim community in the Federal Capital Territory on Sunday said the funds to be raised would be used to support widows and orphans among other victims of terror.

He said his administration would continue to raise fund until it was able to cushion the effects of the excesses of the terrorists.

Jonathan said, “Government is looking on how to raise funds, so that the widows, orphans, those whose business premises have been vandalised and even our worship places, mosques and churches that have been destroyed, we will rebuild.”
