Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has expressed worry with the attitude of Nigerians who prefer foreign food and products to what they have locally.
Speaking at the Government House, Umuahia when he received in audience the Executive Director and chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council,Mr Olusegun Obasanjo who paid him a courtesy visit, the Governor regretted that Nigerians were still in what he called consumption mode.

He said this state of affairs makes Nigerians lazy and to talk down on what they have, maintaining that something has to be done about the attitude and behavior of Nigerians.

The Governor who disclosed that he has not eaten rice in the last six months said if the country spends as much as N2b daily on importation of rice, the best thing to do was for  Nigerians to stop eating foreign rice.

Dr Ikpeazu applauded the Executive Director for bringing in revolution that will take Nigeria out of her present economic situation and pledged that Abia state will cue into the agenda of the council.

Earlier in a presentation on achieving “zero oil in Nigeria”,the Executive Director and chief executive Officer of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council, Mr Olusegun Awolowo said that the vision of the council was to replace oil as the major  national foreign exchange earner by growing non oil exports.

He said that with the fall in oil price globally, Nigeria  should rethink on its export strategies, pointing out that Nigeria can be the shinning example for exports with Abia leading in that regard as a potential hub of African industrialization.
