NDDC To Refund #183.7Billion Unaccounted Funds

An Audit Report submitted by the Auditor General of the Federation, Samuel Ukura, to the National Assembly revealed that the Niger Delta Development Commission could not account for N 183.7 billion between 2008 and 2012.

 

Ukura who also submitted reports of environmental audit on the drying up of lake Chad and special periodic checks on the activities and programmes of the NDDC, said a lot of discrepancies were noticed in the accounts and the said amount is expected to be refunded to the Federation Account.

 

The NDDC is to refund N70.4 billion from the mobilization of contractors who never reported to site, N5.8 billion paid to contractors for abandoned projects, N90.5 billion spent on extra budgetary expenditure without approval, N1.2 billion undeducted taxes, N10.7 billion tax deduction without evidence, N3.1 billion transfers to unauthorized accounts and N1.7 billion unaccounted staff advances.

 

He further revealed that N785 million of N1.1 billion allegedly paid to contractors for supply of furniture to various schools in delta state was also unaccounted for.
