Muhammadu Buhari, former military head of state, has been announced as the winner of yesterday's Presidential Primary election of All Progressives Congress (APC) held at Teslim Balogun Stadium at Surulere, Lagos State. By that result, Buhari defeated four other contestants in the primary, namely: Atiku Abubakar, former vice president of the country; Rochers Okorocha, Governor of Imo State; Rabiu Kwankwaso, outgoing governor of Kano State; and Sam Nda-Isaiah, publisher of Leadership Newspapers.

Earlier yesterday, there were reports that three of the aspirants stepped down for Buhari. But it was refuted by some members of the party who described it as plans of their opponents to cause confusion in their camp. On the contrary, some analysts saw it as kite being flown by some people in the party to throw their opponents off balance.

By his choice, Buhari will now square up with President Goodluck Jonathan in February next year's presidential election.
