Obasanjo under hammer for meddlesomeness

Nigerians are still expressing displeasure over what they consider as former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s continued meddlesomeness in  governance issues in the country.

Factnewsonline discovered that such were opinions of Nigerians reacting over the continuous criticisms of President Goodluck Jonathan by the former President who, for some time now, has used every opportunity to pick holes with Jonathan’s style of governing the country.

Among many who spoke to Factnewsonline were Yinka Odumakin, Spokesperson of Afenifere, the Yoruba apex socio-political group; and Eze Eluchie, a popular legal practitioner with practice in Lagos State and Owerri in Imo State.

Eluchie, in his reaction, did not blame Obasanjo directly but said that it was Jonathan who was emboldening him to continue in his obstinate criticisms of his government. He said Jonathan was the cause as he has always tried to reach out to Obasanjo.

According to him, Jonathan had done this, “having descended to the level of even going to meet Obasanjo in his house; trying to raise Obasanjo to a level and a pedestal that Obasanjo least deserves”. He explained that the former President always had the effrontery to cast aspersions on the efforts of Jonathan’s admistration simply because Jonathan has refused to put him in his place.

He told Factnewsonline that all the ills besetting the country at the moment – from the power supply situation to Boko Haram terror activities; to corruption – were all traceable to Obasanjo’s poor performance while in office.

He opined that “Jonathan can decide to put a stop to all such nonsense anytime, simply by setting the proper machinery in progress to question and look into the activities of such a sneaky and slimy character as Obasanjo”.

Yinka Odumakin explained that Obasanjo’s constant criticism of, not only Jonathan’s government but several other governments in the past has always been a case of “ego and control”.

Describing what was happening as a “coup baking” situation, he stated that whenever Obasanjo lost control of power and influence, he incites the people across the Country. “He (Obasanjo) is not a man that has the interest of the people or the public at heart, to him it is first ego and control, and once he is not in charge he begins to criticise. Yes, there are issues in Nigeria today that Nigerians know they must begin to find solutions to. But Obasanjo has no moral standing to criticise anybody” he said.

However, there were some dissenting voices that considered what Obasanjo was doing to be the right thing. Balarabe Musa, former governor of old Kaduna State, said Jonathan was the creation of Obasanjo, and that if Jonathan failed him, he has the right to criticise him.
