INEC arrest 2 over plans to rig 2015 elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, have arrested two of its ad hoc staff over alleged plans to rig 2015 general elections.

 

The INEC officials who were said to be carrying out a house to house registration exercise for voters were caught at the Kabo area of Kano state and arrested by the Department of State Security, DSS, and the police.

 

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, who confirmed the incident, said arrangement to replace the two ad hoc staff is already on.

 

The INEC boss who debunked claims that the two arrested staff were serving corps members, noted that they were students who were used to complement the manpower shortage of corps members, but maintained that they would be prosecuted accordingly.

 

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission, has suspended the allocation of the controversial additional 30,000 polling units initially planned ahead of the 2015 general elections, which was to give the north massive voting advantage over the south.
