ABIA RAIL LINES RECIEVE FACELIFT

As part of his administration's promise to revive rail services across the country,the Nigerian Railway Corporation has began the rehabilitation of rail lines in Abia state.


This signals a ray of hope of the revival of rail transport services across the country.
The rail transport system was a major means of transportation in the 1960's up to the 1980's in Nigeria.
It was described as a cheaper and convenient  means of transport,and linked major cities across the country with commercial activities along its major routes.


Former President Olusegun Obasanjo during his tenure introduced a modern means of train transport with the signing of a contract worth 8.3 billion naira with a chinese firm.
President Goodluck Jonathan as part of his administrations efforts at reviving the train system launched a two Diesel Multiple Units train sets and six air-conditioned passengers coaches at the Nigerian Railway Corporation Terminus in Lagos.


The rehabilitation process has gotten to Umuahia. Some workers were seen clearing debris on the rail lines across the city.


The site Supervisor,Engr. Ogbodo who spoke to FACTNEWS citing the rains and funds as constraints appealed for the support for all residents of umuahia to achieve its purpose.
Some residents of the city who spoke to us expressed delight at the ongoing rehabilitation process of rail lines while calling for its speedy completion.


It is a known fact that the survival and extent of development of any economy is dependent on the development and efficiency of its transport system.


The revival of the entire eastern railway system is vital to the economic advancement of the region.
Abians and the southeast are expectant that the conclusion of the rehabilitation process of the rail lines will foster even development.
